This is the remains of a collective grave formed towards the end of the Middle Yayoi period, located in Kaminohara, Kitada, Naraha Town, Futaba County, Fukushima Prefecture. It is located on a terrace at an altitude of about 40m at the mouth of the Kido River, bordering the Pacific Ocean on the east side. A survey conducted in 1979 in conjunction with the construction of Tenjinmisaki Sports Park uncovered 47 pit graves and 24 earthenware coffin graves separated into three groups. The pit graves are oblong, measuring about 2m in length and 70cm in width, with the head pillows concentrated towards the north-northeast. Two of the graves yielded 84 small magatama beads and one tubular bead, the largest number of magatama in eastern Japan. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
