A general term for a group of about 90 stories of various lengths that depict the justice of Ooka Echizen no Kami (Tadasuke). All but "The Shirakoya Okuma Incident" (Kamiyui Shinza) are said to be fiction (for example, "Tenichibo Incident" was written by the Finance Magistrate Inou Shimotsuke no Kami) or are fictional. As a true story novel, "Inpiroku" (1769) is the oldest, and it was published under titles such as "Itaoka Seiyo", "Ooka Seiyo-ki", and "Ooka Jinsei-roku", and continued to grow until the end of the Edo period, but the relationships between the various versions have not yet been sorted out. It is not clear when it became a rakugo story, but there is an account of Shirakoya in Baba Bunko's "Kinsei Edo Chomonshu" (1757), and it is said that the first Morikawa Bakoku read "Ooka's Nine Rule Records" at the first gathering of the New Year. "The Story of Leading the Daughter's Hand" resembles the Solomon legend, and "The Case of Hikobei the Haberdashery" is based on the Chinese "Ryuto Koan," but conversely, the latter collection of "Aoto Fujitsuna Morioan" (1812) by Kyokutei Bakin is based on "The Case of Echigo Denkichi," and Kawatake Mokuami's kabuki play "The Peeping Machine that Encourages Good and Punishes Evil" (1862) is based on "The Case of Murai Choan," and they have all had an influence on later generations. In any case, the creation, transformation, and interrelationships of each tale are extremely complex.

大岡越前守(えちぜんのかみ)（忠相(ただすけ)）の裁きぶりを描く、長短90話ほどの説話群の総称。『白子屋阿熊(おくま)一件』（髪結新三(かみゆいしんざ)）以外は仮託（たとえば『天一坊一件』は勘定奉行(かんじょうぶぎょう)稲生下野守(いのうしもつけのかみ)）、または虚構といわれている。実録小説としては『隠秘録(いんぴろく)』（1769）が古く、『板岡政要』『大岡政要記』『大岡仁政録』などの書名で行われており、幕末期まで成長し続けたが、諸本の関係はまだ整理されていない。講談化された時期はさだかでないが、馬場文耕(ぶんこう)『近世江戸著聞集』（1757）に白子屋一件があり、初代森川馬谷(ばこく)は正月初席に『大岡仁政録』を読んだといわれている。『娘の手を引くの件』はソロモン伝説に類似し、『小間物屋彦兵衛一件』は中国の『竜図公案(りゅうとこうあん)』に拠(よ)っているが、逆に曲亭馬琴(ばきん)作読本(よみほん)『青砥藤綱摸稜案(あおとふじつなもりょうあん)』後集（1812）は『越後(えちご)伝吉一件』に、河竹黙阿弥(もくあみ)作歌舞伎(かぶき)『勧善懲悪覗機関(かんぜんちょうあくのぞきからくり)』（1862）は『村井長庵一件』に拠(よ)るなど、後世に影響を与えた。ともあれ個々の説話の生成変移、相互関連はきわめて複雑である。
