It means "hill" in Arabic. The same goes for the tell in Tel Aviv, Israel; it is not just ruins, but in archaeology, only ruins are of concern. The state of architecture determines the form of the ruins. Wooden houses decay, leaving only foundation stones or post holes, but in sun-dried brick and stone masonry architecture, the materials pile up to cover the foundation of the building, and when construction is repeated on the same land, it becomes a small hill. Such architecture has been carried out in Western Asia since ancient times, and remains as ruins. In archaeology, these hill-like ruins are called tells, tepe, tape, etc., but they are also the names of places where people still live, such as Tel Aviv.
