Ishida Toryo

Japanese: 石田東陵 - いしだとうりょう

1865-1934 A Chinese scholar from the Meiji to early Showa period.
Born on January 26, 1839. A native of Sendai. He studied Confucianism under Saito Masanori, an assistant professor at the Sendai domain school Yoken-do, and Chinese poetry under Kokubu Seigai. After serving as vice principal at his alma mater Kyoritsu School (later Kaisei Junior High School), he served as a professor at Daito Bunka Gakuin and a lecturer at Tokyo Bunri University. He passed away on December 6, 1934, at the age of 70. His real name was Yoichiro, and his nickname was Shigo.

元治(げんじ)2年1月26日生まれ。仙台の人。儒学を仙台藩藩校養賢堂の助教斎藤真典に,漢詩を国分青厓(せいがい)にまなぶ。母校共立学校(のちの開成中学校)の教頭をへて,大東文化学院教授,東京文理大講師をつとめた。昭和9年12月6日死去。70歳。本名は羊一郎。字(あざな)は士剛。
