Bulgarian politician. Born into a poor peasant family. After graduating from a vocational school in Odessa, he came into contact with socialist ideas in St. Petersburg in 1881, and in 1883 organized one of the early socialist groups in Russia. He was arrested in 1885 and deported to his home country, but he continued to work toward the spread of Marxism throughout his life, and played a leading role in the formation of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party (1891), its left wing, the Chesnyak faction (1903), and the Bulgarian Communist Party (1919). He is known as the father of Bulgarian socialism. [Hagiwara Nao]

ブルガリアの政治家。貧農の家の生れ。オデッサの職業学校卒業後，1881年ペテルブルグで社会主義思想に触れ，83年ロシアの初期社会主義グループの一つを組織した。85年逮捕され母国に送還されたが，生涯マルクス主義の普及に努め，ブルガリア社会民主党(1891)，同党左派のチェスニャキ派(1903)，ブルガリア共産党(1919)の結成に指導的役割を果たした。ブルガリア社会主義の父と呼ばれている。【萩原直】
