A town in Rishiri County in northern Hokkaido. It occupies the eastern half of Rishiri Island. There are fishing ports at Oshidomari in the north and Oniwaki in the south. Until around 1955, the town was bustling with herring fishing, but has now switched to aquaculture of abalone, sea urchin, salmon, trout, and other fish. Rishiri Airport is located here. 北海道北部，利尻郡の町。利尻島の東半分を占める。北部に鴛泊(おしどまり)，南部に鬼脇(おにわき)の漁港がある。1955年ごろまでニシン漁でにぎわったが，現在は，アワビ，ウニ，サケ，マスなどの増養殖事業へと転換。利尻空港がある。1990年東利尻町が名称変更。105.61km2。3037人（2010）。→利尻礼文サロベツ国立公園
