...the process of receiving an analog voltage signal that is a function of continuous change and sending out a corresponding discretely coded digital information signal. It is often abbreviated as A-D conversion. The inverse function of this, that is, receiving digital code information and generating a voltage signal proportional to the value represented by this code, is called digital-to-analog conversion (D-A conversion).
