Hirotaka Terazawa

Japanese:
Hirotaka Terazawa
Year of death: April 11, 10 (May 18, 1633)
Year of birth: 1563
A feudal lord in the early Edo period. Also known as Chujiro, Masanari, and Hirotada. Shima no Kami. Junior Fourth Rank, Lower. Eldest son of Terazawa Hiromasa. Born in Owari (Aichi Prefecture). Served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and during the Korean War that began in 1592, he was involved in the construction of Nagoya Castle, as a reserve force, arranging for military supplies and ship transfers, and entertaining peace envoys from the Ming Dynasty. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he belonged to the Eastern Army, and as a reward, he was awarded an additional 40,000 koku in the Hizen Province of Amakusa, making him a feudal lord with a total of 120,000 koku. He also served as the magistrate of Nagasaki from 1591, and worked to establish the red seal ship trade, but was dismissed from that position in 1604 due to a conflict over Portuguese ship trade. This may mean that the Terazawa clan, an outside daimyo who was Hideyoshi's personal ally, was eliminated under the Tokugawa government. Regarding the theory that Hirotaka converted to Christianity, there are some negative opinions in the records of the Society of Jesus.
