...Later, a device was invented that uses a different small gyroscope to detect the ship's rolling angular velocity, and uses the signal to force the main gyro into precession, thereby reducing the rolling effect of the main gyro. This device quickly became popular, but it is no longer used much today because the device itself takes up a large amount of space on board the ship and is expensive.

A wing-shaped fin protrudes from the surface of the hull into the seawater on both sides of the curved left and right sides near the center of the hull. When the ship rolls while sailing, seawater flows in at the angle of attack of the fin, generating lift in a direction that counteracts the rolling motion.
