…In 1921, he published a collection of tanka poems titled Aratama, and established a state of mind in which he had deepened his descriptive theory. In October of the same year, he studied in Europe, where he conducted medical research for three years. On his way back to Japan after receiving his doctorate in medicine, he heard the tragic news that the Aoyama Brain Hospital run by his foster father had burned down. In 1925, he worked to rebuild the hospital, and during that time he published essays from his stay in Europe, which exuded a unique body odor, as well as writings collected in Nenjushu (1930), and was also active in writing critiques and tanka poems. …
