Tela (English spelling)

Japanese: テラ（英語表記）Tela

A city in northwestern Honduras. It is a port city on the Caribbean Sea at Tela Bay, about 200 km north of the capital Tegucigalpa. It was built as a banana shipping port by the United Fruit Company of the United States, across the Tela River from the village of Tela. Today, it also ships coconuts and various other fruits, which are transported by the Tela Railway. There are soap factories and other facilities in the city. Population: 23,500 (1989 estimate).

ホンジュラス北西部の都市。首都テグシガルパの北約 200km，カリブ海テラ湾にのぞむ港湾都市。テラ川をはさんでテラ村の対岸に，アメリカ合衆国のユナイテッド・フルーツ社により，バナナ積出港として建設された。現在はテラ鉄道によって運ばれるココナッツや各種果実も積出す。市内には石鹸工場などがある。人口2万 3500 (1989推計) 。
