Japanese: 明科[町] - あかしな

A former town in Higashichikuma District, Nagano Prefecture. The main settlement is located in the northeastern part of the Matsumoto Basin, where the Takase River and Azusa River join together to form the Sai River, and the Shinonoi Line passes through the area. The town produces rice and shiitake mushrooms, and also operates a precision machinery manufacturing industry. It is known for cultivating rainbow trout. In October 2005, it merged with Toyoshina Town, Hotaka Town, Misato Village, and Horigane Village in Minamiazumi District to become Azumino City. 42.12 ^km2 . 9,601 people (2003).

長野県東筑摩郡の旧町。主集落は松本盆地北東部，高瀬川や梓(あずさ)川などが合流して犀(さい)川となる地点に位置し，篠ノ井線が通じる。米，シイタケなどを産し，精密機械工業も行う。ニジマスの養殖で知られる。2005年10月，南安曇郡豊科町，穂高町，三郷村，堀金村と合併し市制，安曇野市となる。42.12km²。9601人（2003）。
