Windermere (Lake)

A glacial lake in Cumbria (formerly Westmoreland) in the northwest of England, England. It is the largest lake in England, with a length of 17 km, a width of 1.6 km, and an area of 14.5 km2. It is 67 m deep at its deepest point. The lake is roughly divided into north and south halves by an island in the middle. It is a representative lake of the Lake District region, which is centered on the Cumbrian Mountains, and its beautiful scenery was praised by lakeside poets such as Wordsworth and Coleridge. The towns on the eastern shore, such as Windermere and Bo'ness, are known as bases for resorts.
