A glacial lake in Cumbria (formerly Westmoreland) in the northwest of England, England. It is the largest lake in England, with a length of 17 km, a width of 1.6 km, and an area of 14.5 km2. It is 67 m deep at its deepest point. The lake is roughly divided into north and south halves by an island in the middle. It is a representative lake of the Lake District region, which is centered on the Cumbrian Mountains, and its beautiful scenery was praised by lakeside poets such as Wordsworth and Coleridge.
