...When Toho's crisis became serious in 1971 with the decline of the movie industry, he cited the fact that in America and other countries, the studio-centered mass production system that had boasted the golden age of movies had collapsed, but was being revitalized by the new unit production system, and advocated a policy of separating the production departments of the studios and making them independent companies. He is the author of "The Work of a Film Maker" (1955), which introduces and explains "Case History of a Movie" (1950) by American producer and screenwriter Dori Schally, and has expanded on it, "The Actuality of Filmmaking" (1976), "American Film Makers" (1965), and other books.
