A Tibetan scholar who visited Tibet three times. In 1899, he traveled from Chengdu to Patan via Dajianlu, but returned to Japan without achieving his goal. In 1900, he served as an army interpreter during the Boxer Rebellion, brought the Beijing edition of the Tripitaka, and invited Akyakhutuktu, the head of the Yonghe Temple, to Japan. In 2002, he passed through Dronnor and arrived in Qinghai, and in 2005, he returned to Japan via Kumbum, Lhasa, Tashilhunpo, and India. In 2006, he returned to Qinghai via Xi'an, and came into contact with the 13th Dalai Lama (→ Thubten Gyatso), who had returned to Qinghai from Urga. After returning to Japan, he went to Wutai Mountain in Shanxi in 2008, where he arranged a meeting between the 13th Dalai Lama and Otani Sonyu of Nishi Honganji Temple, and was also active around the Dalai Lama in Beijing. He returned to Japan in 2009, and began his research life, and has been a professor at Otani University since 2015. The requested documents are kept at Otani University.

チベットに3回入国したチベット学者。 1899年成都から打箭炉を経てパタンまで入ったが，志をとげず帰国。 1900年北清事変に陸軍通訳として従軍，北京版大蔵経などを請来，雍和宮座首アキャフトゥクトゥを日本に招いた。 02年ドロンノールを経て，青海にいたり，05年クンブムからラサ，タシルンポ，インドを経て帰国。 06年西安を経て再び青海にいたり，ウルガより青海に帰ったダライ・ラマ 13世 (→トゥプテンギャツォ ) と接触。いったん帰国してのち 08年山西五台山にいたり，ダライ・ラマ 13世と西本願寺の大谷尊由の会見を準備し，北京滞在のダライ・ラマ周辺でも活躍した。 09年に帰国，以後研究生活に入り，15年以後大谷大学教授をつとめた。請来文献は大谷大学に所蔵されている。
