Film director. Born in Tokyo. After dropping out of Waseda Jitsugyo, he joined Toho in 1942. In 1947, he helped found Shintoho, and after working as assistant director and scriptwriter, he made his directorial debut with King of the Ring: The Glorious World (1957). He directed modern and sharp entertainment action films such as Japan's first superhero film Super Giants (1957) and the erotic thriller White Line Secret Zone (1958). After Shintoho went bankrupt, he moved to Toei, where he started a boom in yakuza films with Showa Kyoukakuden (1963) and directed the Abashiri Bangaichi (1965) series, which made Takakura Ken a star. He was active on television in the 1980s, but from the 1990s he released films such as Tsuge Yoshiharu World: Master of Gensenkan (1993) and Screw Type (1996).
