Born: May 8, 1818, Gagetown, New Brunswick
Died June 25, 1896. Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. After working as a pharmacist, he entered politics in 1850 when he was elected to the New Brunswick House of Representatives, and in 1861 he became the colony's Prime Minister. As a representative of the reformist liberals, he supported the union of the maritime colonies and eventually of all the British colonies in North America, and participated in the Charlottetown Convention and the Quebec Convention, leading the colony of New Brunswick to Confederation. In 1867 he was elected to the federal House of Representatives, and joined the cabinet as the first Minister of Customs. In 1873 he became Minister of Finance. During the resignation of JA MacDonald from 1873 to 1878, he served as Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick, but in 1878 he returned to the position and worked hard to realize the protective tariff "National Policy". He then retired from central politics due to ill health, and was reappointed Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick from 1885 to 1893.

Died April 20, 1632. Ingolstadt. A German Bavarian military officer. Born into an old noble family in Brabant. Educated by the Jesuits, he later joined the Spanish army and fought in the Netherlands, but in 1610 was asked by Maximilian I, Duke of Bavaria, to become commander-in-chief of the Catholic coalition. When the Thirty Years' War broke out in 1618, he led the Catholic coalition army to suppress the Bohemian rebellion at the request of the emperor, and in 1620 won a major victory at the Battle of Weisselberg near Prague. From 1621 to 1623, he subjugated the Palatinate. When the Danish War began in 1625, he defeated the army of Christian IV of Denmark at Luther in 1626. In 1630, he became the supreme commander of the army of German Emperor Ferdinand II. In 1631, he captured Magdeburg, invaded Schleswig-Holstein, and was completely defeated by Gustav II of Sweden at the Battle of Breitenfeld. He was mortally wounded and died the following year in the Battle of the Lech River.

Belgian poet and novelist. Written in French. An admirer of G. Apollinaire, in his poetry he emphasized his own internal contradictions through discordant colloquial language, and expressed the anxious feelings of a man in a foreign land. His poetry collections include Statue de la Fatigue (1934), La Mer et la Tranquillité (38), Ages (50), and Vie Poésie (61). In his novels he creates beautiful fictions on the border between normality and abnormality. His major works include Juste ou la Quête d'Hélène (50) and Voie lactée (60). He was a member of the Academie Royale des Lettres francophones (French Literatures) of Belgium.

American sociologist and political scientist. He is the director of the Center for the Study of Social Change at the New School for Social Research. He is known for presenting a framework for analyzing social change in modern Europe using statistical methods based on the model of resource mobilization theory. His main work is From Mobilization to Revolution (1978).

[Died] September 16, 1952. London. British entertainer. Real name Matilda Alice Powles. After making her debut as a child actress in 1868, she appeared in many music halls and theaters, and played the role of a boy in a pantomime, becoming a huge hit in London. She retired in 1920.

ドイツ,バイエルンの軍人。ブラバントの古い貴族の出身。イエズス会の教育を受け,のちスペイン陸軍に入ってネーデルラントで戦ったが,1610年バイエルン公マクシミリアン1世に請われてカトリック連合の総帥となる。 18年に三十年戦争が起ると,皇帝の要請でカトリック連合軍を率いてボヘミアの反乱の鎮圧に向い,20年プラハ付近ワイセルベルクの戦いで大勝を得た。 21~23年にファルツを制圧。 25年にデンマーク戦争が始ると,26年にルッターでデンマークのクリスチャン4世軍を破った。 30年ドイツ皇帝フェルディナント2世軍の最高司令官。 31年マクデブルクを攻略,シュレースウィヒ=ホルシュタインに侵入,ブライテンフェルトの戦いでスウェーデンのグスタフ2世に完敗。翌年レヒ河畔の戦いで致命傷を負って没した。
