Bulgarian writer. Born into a family of army officers, he showed early talent in art, natural sciences and languages. He wanted to go to South America to put his Spanish and livestock anatomy skills to good use, but was unable to do so. He worked as a veterinarian in various parts of the country and later studied in Spain. In 1953 he became a professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Sofia University, and has published many research papers. His literary activities began with the novel "Lieutenant Benz" (1938), followed by the play "Rest at Arko Iris" (1963), short stories, travelogues and many other works. He also served as chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Writers and chairman of the board of directors of the Union of Balkan Writers. He won the Dimitrov Prize for his much-talked-about novel "Tobacco" (1951). [Maki Mikiko] [Reference] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
