…This area was especially famous for its Spanish-style fanaticism, and the Spanish painter Rivera, who lived there from 1616, perfected a sincere religious expression that was both Caravaggio-like and Spanish, exerting a great influence on the Neapolitan school and Spain itself. As part of the Neapolitan school of the Roman Bambocchianti, Aniello Falcone (1607-56) and Bernardo Cavallino (1616-56) excelled in delicate color and lyrical expression of light, comparable to the Venetian school. Furthermore, influenced by the colors of the Rubensist Van Dyck, who was introduced through Sicily and Genoa, Pietro Giovanni Novelli (1603-47) and Francesco Fracanzano (1612-56) also demonstrated their artistic talents.
