A general term for birds of the passerine order Remizidae family, or one of these species. Birds of this family are 9 to 12 cm long. They are small birds with pointed, thin beaks. Their feathers are brown or gray-brown above and pale brown below. They live in flocks in grasslands, marshes, sparse forests, and forest edges with sparse brush and trees. During the breeding season, males build long, thin hanging nests made from plant fibers at the tops of thin, drooping branches. Six species are found in Africa, one species from Europe to Asia, and one species in North America. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
