Guillaume le Breton

Japanese: ギヨーム・ル・ブルトン(英語表記)Guillaume le Breton
Guillaume le Breton
1159?-1227
French chronicler. At the age of 12, he left his native Brittany and studied first in Mantes and then in Paris. Around 1195-1200, he became a close aide to Philip II the Austere and was appointed chaplain to the king. He was sent to Rome to negotiate the king's divorce and remarriage, and was also entrusted with educating the king's illegitimate son, Pierre Charlot. In addition to the 10 volumes of the Latin poem Philippide, he wrote a Latin prose account of the king's deeds up to 1220, based on Rigord's unfinished Gesta Philippi Augusti.
