Canis Minor (English spelling)

Japanese: こいぬ座(小犬座) - こいぬざ（英語表記）Canis Minor

Its abbreviation is CMi. It is a small constellation that decorates the winter sky, facing Canis Major across the Milky Way. Alpha Procyon is a star of magnitude 0.4, spectral type F5, and a visible binary system with a period of 41 years. The companion star is a white dwarf with a magnitude of 10.3. Its proper name Procyon means "before the dog" in Greek, and it was so named because it rises above the eastern horizon before the bright star Sirius in Canis Major. Beta Procyon has a magnitude of 3.0, and is given the proper name Gomeiza (the Tearful One) or Murzim (the Preceding One).
