An American ballet company with Lincoln Kirstein (1907-96) as general manager and G. Balanchine as artistic director. It has had its current name since 1948, but its origins date back to 1933, when Kirstein came up with the idea of founding a permanent ballet company to establish classical ballet in America, and invited Balanchine from Paris. In January of the following year, 1934, the two first opened the American Ballet School as a foundation for a ballet company, and in the following year, 1935, they founded a touring American Ballet company made up of graduates from the school. カーステーンLincoln Kirstein(1907‐96)を総支配人とし,G.
