It is a perennial grass of the Poaceae family that grows in wetlands and marshes, and is one of the rare species known only from a few places in Japan and China. It is a rather large herbaceous plant, with stems rising from short rhizomes and reaching a height of 1-1.2m. The leaves are long and linear, 40-70cm long and about 10mm wide, rough overall, gradually becoming longer and more pointed at the tips, and thin but hard. From August to October, it produces a large, somewhat sparse panicle at the top of the stem, about 50cm long and 20cm wide. The branches are thin and open obliquely when flowering, but later stand up along the central axis and produce a few spikelets. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
