A reaction in which one or more halogen atoms are introduced into an organic compound is called fluorination, chlorination, bromination, iodination, etc., depending on the type of halogen. (1) Fluorination In recent years, a great number of reactions have been developed for the fluorination of organic compounds in connection with pharmacologically active compounds. (2) Chlorination Industrially, chlorination is the most important, and many reactions have been developed. Vinyl chloride, which is produced by the addition reaction of acetylene and hydrogen chloride, is the raw material for polyvinyl chloride resin.

有機化合物に1個またはそれ以上のハロゲン原子を導入する反応で，ハロゲンの種類によって，フッ素化，塩素化(クロル化)，臭素化(ブロム化)，ヨウ素化などと呼ばれる。(1)フッ素化　有機化合物のフッ素化は，近年薬理活性化合物との関連で，きわめて多くの反応が開発されている。(2)塩素化　工業的には塩素化が最も重要であり，多くの反応が開発されている。アセチレンと塩化水素の付加反応により生成する塩化ビニルは塩化ビニル樹脂の原料である。
