A Shinto book by Hirata Atsutane. Also known as "The Tale of Torakichi." The number of volumes is uncertain due to the manuscript. Completed in 1822 (Bunsei 5). In 1820, Atsutane met with a boy named Torakichi, who claimed to have been abducted by a god and gone missing, and to have been living in the world of immortals during that time. This book is a record of that encounter. It gives a glimpse into Atsutane's mystical thinking, who introduced a belief in the underworld into his own theological system and who himself believed in the existence of a "secret world." Atsutane even entrusted the boy with a letter to the "secret world." [Noguchi Takehiko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
