Tsukiyamadono

Japanese: 築山殿 - つきやまどの
Tsukiyamadono

Wife of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Also called Suruga Gozen. Her father was Sekiguchi Yoshihiro (some say Ujihiro, others Chikanaga), and her mother was the younger sister of Imagawa Yoshimoto of Suruga. In 1556 (Koji 2), as an adopted daughter of Yoshimoto, she married Ieyasu, who was a hostage of the Imagawa clan at the time and the lord of Okazaki Castle in Mikawa in Sunpu, and later gave birth to a son and a daughter, Nobuyasu and Kamehime. Later, when Ieyasu gained independence, she was welcomed and moved to Okazaki in 1562 (Eiroku 5), and when Ieyasu moved to Hamamatsu in Totomi in 1570 (Genki 1), she remained in Okazaki under the care of his heir, Nobuyasu. On August 29, 79 (Tensho 7), he was reprimanded by Oda Nobunaga for colluding with Takeda Katsuyori, and was killed by his vassal Nonaka Shigemasa, who was ordered by Ieyasu, near Hamamatsu. He was 38 years old by Japanese reckoning. His posthumous name was Saiko-in (later changed to Seichi-in), and he was buried at Seiryu-ji Temple in Totomi (Futamata, Futamata-cho, Tenryu-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture).
