A balance that can quickly and accurately measure the mass of an object and display the result directly can be found in two-blade and three-blade types. Two-blade direct-reading balances are simply called direct-reading balances, and most balances in use belong to this type. The diagram shows the structure of a direct-reading balance. A pan and an internal weight equivalent to the weighing capacity (a weight not regulated by the Measurement Act and whose mass has been adjusted correctly) are hung at the weight point of the lever, and a piston of a damper (consisting of a piston and cylinder) that quickly stops the vibration of the lever is fixed to the force point, as well as a glass plate with a scale for reading the balance and a counterweight for balancing the lever.
