Japanese: 直尺 - ちょくしゃく（英語表記）rule

Generally called a scale, it is used to measure the dimensions of roughly machined parts using a pass or a toscan. It has 1mm or 0.5mm graduations. Various structures and materials are used depending on the purpose of use and precision, including wood, bamboo, synthetic resin, metal, and glass. Straight scales are classified into actual scales, expandable scales, and angle scales. This article describes metal straight scales and metal angle scales specified by JIS. There are three types of metal straight scales: Type A for precision use, Type B for drafting, and Type C for general use.

一般にはスケールscaleと呼ばれ，粗加工部品の寸法をパス，トースカンなどを用いて測定するものである。1mm目盛，または0.5mm目盛である。構造や材料は使用目的や精度によっていろいろのものが使われているが，木，竹，合成樹脂，金属，ガラスなどがある。直尺は実目盛直尺，伸縮目盛直尺，角度直尺などに分類される。ここでは，JISに規定されている金属製直尺，金属製角度直尺について述べる。金属製直尺は精密用のA形，製図用のB形，一般用のC形の3種類がある。
