A general term for fish of the family Chaetodontidae in the order Perciformes, or refers to one of these species. Along with the family Pomacentridae, the family Chaetodontidae is one of the most representative coral reef fishes, and their beautiful colors and markings make them popular in aquariums, home aquariums, and among divers. The name "chouchou" is used worldwide, and is called "butterfly fish" in English, papillon in French, and lingkochouyu in Chinese. They are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical warm seas, and their range roughly overlaps with that of coral reefs. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
