...Distributed throughout the tropics, mainly in Madagascar, the flowers are tubular, tetramerous, and have eight stamens. The subfamily Sempervivum includes the genus Aeonium (36 species), found mainly in the Canary Islands, and the genus Sempervivum (23 species), found in Europe. They have dense rosette leaves, the flowers are disopetalous, 6-32-merous, and the stamens are multiples of the petals. The genus Sempervivum is highly cold-resistant.
