Choshizuka Tomb - Choshizuka Tomb

Japanese: 銚子塚古墳 - ちょうしづかこふん
Choshizuka Tomb - Choshizuka Tomb
There are ancient tombs called Choshizuka in various places, and all of them are keyhole-shaped tombs with a low, elongated front section extending from one side of the circular rear section. The name was given because the characteristic shape of the tomb resembles a long-handled choshi (a Japanese sake bottle). Ikisan Choshizuka Tomb (Fukuoka Prefecture) and Nakamichi Choshizuka Tomb (Yamanashi Prefecture) are particularly famous.
[Ichikisan Choshizuka Tomb]
This is a keyhole-shaped tumulus from the late 4th century located in Tanaka, Nijo Town, Itoshima County, Fukuoka Prefecture (formerly Ichikisan Village). The tumulus, built facing north on a diluvial plateau, has lost some of its original shape, but is 102 meters long, with a restored diameter of 60 meters at the rear and 31 meters wide at the front. There are no traces of roofing stones or cylindrical haniwa, and it does not have a surrounding moat.
