Iwatsuki Castle

…Since Ota Sukenaga (Dokan) built the castle here in 1457 to oppose Koga kubo Ashikaga Shigeuji, it became the residence of the Ota clan for generations under the control of the Kanto Kanrei Uesugi clan. After that, the Ota clan used Iwatsuki Castle to resist the advance of the Later Hojo clan into northern Musashi, but in 1564 (Eiroku 7) there was a civil war and Ota Ujisuke expelled his father Sukeyasu, after which the Ota clan came under control. After Ujisuke, Hojo Ujimasa's second son Ujifusa took over the Ota clan name as lord of the castle, and as a subsidiary castle of Odawara, it became an important base for the Later Hojo clan's strategy for conquering northern Musashi. …

…1457年古河公方足利成氏に対抗するため太田資長(道灌)がここに築城して以来，関東管領上杉氏の支配のもとで太田氏代々の居城となった。その後，太田氏はこの岩付城に拠って後北条氏の北武蔵進出に抗したが，1564年(永禄7)内訌（ないこう）によって太田氏資が父資正を追放したのち後北条氏の支配に服した。氏資のあとは北条氏政の次男氏房が城主として太田氏の名跡を継ぎ，小田原の支城として後北条氏の北武蔵経略の重要拠点となった。…
