Round singing - Rinsho

Japanese:
Round singing - Rinsho

A polyphonic song in which other voices sing the same melody as the preceding one, with each voice following after the previous one at regular intervals (usually 2-4 bars), or the act of singing it. Depending on the number of voices, it is called a two-part round, a three-part round, etc. It is a form of vocal canon, and usually has repeat signs, so it can be repeated infinitely. There have been many such rounds in Western music since "Summer Has Come" in the 14th century. One piece that is very popular in Japan is "Quiet by the Lake."
