Japanese: 季節型 - きせつがた（英語表記）seasonal form

Animals (mainly insects) that occur more than twice a year and show significantly different forms depending on the season they occur in. They are called spring, summer, and autumn types, and intermediate types also appear. Some butterflies (swallowtails), markings (sakahachicho), and wing shapes (natives) vary so much depending on the season that they seem to be different species at first glance. Water fleas also have different body shapes depending on the season they occur in. Aphids produce males and females that reproduce sexually only in the fall, and only parthenogenetic females at other times of the year, but this is not considered a true seasonal type.

1年に2回以上発生する動物 (おもに昆虫) で，発生する季節により著しく異なった形態を示すもの。春型，夏型，秋型などと呼ばれ，中間型も現れる。チョウでは，大きさ (アゲハチョウ) ，斑紋 (サカハチチョウ) ，翅形 (キタテハ) などが，季節により一見別種と思われるほど異なるものがある。また，ミジンコは発生季節により体形が異なる。アリマキでは，秋季のみに有性生殖する雌雄が，他の時期には単為生殖する雌のみが生れるが，これは本来の季節型というのとは異なる。
