Chukchi language - Chukchigo (English spelling) Chukchee

It belongs to the Chukchi-Kamchatkan language family, with approximately 11,000 speakers in the Chukotka Peninsula in Northeast Asia. It has also been used as a kind of lingua franca by the neighboring Even people (Tungusic), Eskimos, and even by the newly arrived Russians. A written form was created in the 1930s, and primary education began, and today the tradition of a written language has been established. It is an ergative language in which the verb can contain a noun stem, and the nouns are inflected differently depending on whether they are human or not. Phonetically, it has a unique vowel harmony. It is sometimes called Luorabetlan, after the self-proclaimed name of the Chukchi.

チュクチ・カムチャツカ語族に属し、東北アジアのチュコト半島に約1万1000人の話し手がいる。近隣のエベン人（ツングース系）やエスキモー、さらには新来のロシア人に一種の共通語として用いられたこともある。1930年代に文字がつくられ、初等教育を開始、今日では文語の伝統が確立している。動詞のなかに名詞幹を抱き込みうる類の抱合語であり、名詞は人間であるか否かなどの区別によって屈折が異なる能格的言語である。音声面では独特の母音調和を示す。チュクチの自称をとってルオラベトラン語とよばれることもある。
