Kanazawa Plain - Kanazawa Heiya

Also called the Kaga Plain, it is a long, narrow plain in the southern half of Ishikawa Prefecture. It runs roughly northeast-southwest, with a length of about 60 kilometers and a width of about 10 kilometers. The southeast side is bordered by the Kaga Mountains, with Mt. Hakusan as its main peak, and the northwest side faces the Sea of Japan, with sand dunes growing on the coast. Rivers such as the Tedori, Daishoji, Kakehashi, Sai, and Asano flow through the area, and alluvial fans, deltas, and lagoons have developed, many of which have been reclaimed. It is a region where early-season rice is grown in paddy fields, and fruit trees and field crops are also cultivated in the sand dunes and southern hills. In the central area of the prefecture, in addition to the prefectural capital Kanazawa, Hakusan, Komatsu, and Kaga cities are lined up, and the JR Hokuriku Main Line, Hokuriku Expressway, and national highways run through the area, and the Hokuriku Shinkansen and IR Ishikawa Railway run east of Kanazawa. Other attractions include Kanazawa Port and Komatsu Airport. The city is famous for its traditional crafts such as Kutani ware, lacquerware, and Kaga Yuzen dyeing, as well as the textile and machinery industries.
