Chidori's song - Chidori no kyoku

Japanese:
Chidori's song - Chidori no kyoku

The title of a koto piece. A work from the late Edo period. It is one of the five pieces in the "Kokin Group" (pieces composed to songs from the Kokin Wakashu) composed by Yoshizawa Kengyo II (1800-72). However, in this piece, the opening tune is taken from the Kokin Wakashu and the closing tune from the Kinyoshu, and both tunes include the plover, hence the title. Yoshizawa Kengyo was a composer who tried to pave a unique path for koto music influenced by the shamisen, and he inherited the intentions of Mitsuzaki Kengyo, who composed "Akikaze no Kyoku." The composition of the piece is Maebiki - Maebiki - Tegoto - Atogoto, and this is the only one of the five pieces in the Kokin Group that has a tegoto instrumental section that is only for the koto. Although it is originally an Ikuta school piece, it is also performed in the Yamada school, and along with "Rokudan," it is one of the most well-known pieces.
