…A perennial plant of the Araceae family, widely distributed throughout Japan, mainly in the warm temperate zone. It is polymorphic, and various local forms are given different names. It has an oblate-globular corm about 3-5 cm in diameter underground, from which in spring it grows a pseudostem with the leaf sheaths of the petioles coiled over and over, reaching a height of 40-100 cm, and usually bears two leaves. The leaf blade is goosefoot-shaped with 7-15 lobes, and often has serrated edges. The flower stalk penetrates the pseudostem and stands upright, with a spadix wrapped in a bract at the apex. …
