…In April 1933, Goering, who had become the Minister of the Interior of Prussia, absorbed the Prussian Political Police to create the Gestapo, but from April 1934 onwards, it came under the command of Himmler, the head of the Nazi SS. Furthermore, just after the start of World War II (September 1939), the Reich Security Office (RSHA) was established, with Reinhard Heydrich (1904-42) as its chief, and the Gestapo became its Fourth Directorate (headed by Heinrich Müller). In this way, state institutions (the Political Police) and party organizations (the SS, and especially its Security Intelligence Service (SD)) were completely integrated. …
