Japanese: 狭山[市] - さやま

A city in southern Saitama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies part of the Musashino Plateau, and the Irumagawa River flows north. The Irumagawa River in the city center was a settlement that developed at a crossing point on the Kamakura Kaido road in the Middle Ages, and flourished as a market town in the early modern period. The Seibu Railway Shinjuku Line runs through the city, and the Metropolitan Intercity Expressway opened in March 1996. Traditional industries include tea production, lumber, brewing, agricultural processing, and weaving. Since the construction of an industrial complex in the late 1960s, it has developed rapidly, and the shipment value of manufactured goods, including transportation equipment, reached 1.2785 trillion yen (2003), making it the largest industrial city in the prefecture. The area is the home of Sayama tea, and rice, wheat, sweet potatoes, and vegetables are also produced. The Irumagawa Tanabata Festival is famous for its long tradition dating back to the Edo period. 48.99 ^km2 . 155,727 people (2010).

埼玉県南部の市。1954年市制。武蔵野台地の一部を占め，入間(いるま)川が北流する。中心市街の入間川は中世の鎌倉街道の渡河点に発達した集落で，近世は市場町として栄えた。西武鉄道新宿線が通じ，1996年３月首都圏中央連絡自動車道が開通した。伝統産業に製茶，製材，醸造，農産加工，織物などがある。1960年代後半に工業団地が造成されて以来急速に発展し，輸送用機器をはじめ製造品出荷額で１兆2785億円（2003）を上げ，県下一の工業都市となっている。付近は狭山茶の本場で，米，麦，サツマイモ，野菜も産する。入間川七夕祭は江戸時代以来の長い伝統があって有名。48.99km²。15万5727人（2010）。
