It is said to have been located in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula and was the first state of the indigenous Iberians. Research is being conducted on it from both written historical sources and excavation surveys, but many mysteries remain about its actual state. The establishment of Tartessos is thought to be the result of the civilization brought about by contact with the Phoenicians and Greeks, who began to migrate to the Iberian Peninsula around 1000 BC, on the indigenous people of the peninsula. According to historical sources, politically it had a monarchy and a written law written in verse, its economic life was supported by abundant agriculture and mining, and a differentiation of social classes was already evident among its inhabitants.

イベリア半島南部にあったといわれるイベリア原住民による最初の国家。文献史料と発掘調査の両面から研究が進められているが，まだその実態は多くの謎を残している。　タルテソスの成立は，前1000年ころからイベリア半島に渡来し始めたフェニキア人とギリシア人との接触が半島原住民に及ぼした文明化の結果と考えられる。史料によれば政治的には王制，韻文で書かれた成文法を有し，経済生活は豊かな農業と鉱業に支えられ，住民の間にはすでに身分階層の分化が認められた。
