14th front - 33rd rear Granddaughter of Augustus, the first Roman emperor. Born to MV Agrippa and Augustus' daughter Julia, she married Germanicus, the adopted son of Emperor Tiberius. She accompanied her husband on his campaigns in Germania and the East, but came into conflict with him, suspecting that Tiberius was responsible for her husband's sudden death in Syria in 19. Eventually, she was framed for treason along with her two sons by the ambitious Praetorian Guard commander Seianus, who was vying for the position of emperor, and was exiled to the island of Pandatelia off the coast of Naples in 29. She was not released from exile even after Tiberius purged Seianus in 31, and died of starvation in 33. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
