The greatest Italian violinist of the 18th century. He is widely known for his violin sonata "The Devil's Trill", which shows his legendary virtuosity. He was born in Pirano on April 8th. He was destined for the priesthood, but studied law at the University of Padua. He fled the city after secretly marrying, and stayed in the Assisi monastery from 1710 to 1714, where he developed his violin theory. He served as second violinist at the Church of St. Anthony in Padua from 1721, and died there on February 26th, 1770. He composed 150 concertos and 100 sonatas. He developed the double-note technique and modern bowing. He trained famous students such as Nardini, Pugnani, Graun, and Manfredini.
