An active volcano in southern Luzon, Philippines. It is 400m above sea level and about 70km south of Manila. It stands in the center of the large caldera lake, Lake Taal (243km 2 ). It has erupted about 30 times since 1572 (the most recent was in 1977). The 1911 eruption killed about 1,400 people, and the 1965 eruption killed about 200 people are particularly notable.
