In the past, archery was held outdoors, but nowadays indoor facilities are the norm. A kyudo field is broadly divided into the shooting range, target area (azuchi), yamichi (arrow path), and yatorimichi (arrow trapping path). The basic requirements for a close-range archery field are that the shooting distance is accurate and that the height of the shooting range floor and the target area are level.
