A town in Yoichi County, Hokkaido. Located west of Otaru City, the Hakodate Main Line runs through it. Until the Taisho era, it prospered through herring fishing, and currently promotes shallow-water propagation projects. It has long been known for cultivating Yoichi apples, and also produces grapes, pears, and vegetables, and is home to whiskey and wine factories. 北海道余市郡の町。小樽市の西隣,函館本線が通じる。大正年間までニシン漁で栄え,現在は浅海増殖事業を推進している。古くから余市リンゴの栽培で知られ,ブドウ,ナシ,野菜類も産し,ウィスキーやワインの工場もある。市街地は駅付近と漁港の双子町をなす。140.59km2。2万1258人(2010)。
