'Azīz 'Ali al-Miṣrī

1878‐1965
Arab nationalist leader born in Egypt. Graduated from the Military Academy in Istanbul in 1904 and was assigned to Macedonia, where he joined the Young Turk officer organization. When the Young Turk revolution in 1909 brought Ottomanism to the forefront, he began organizing the Arab movement for autonomy within the Ottoman Empire. He helped Yemen achieve independence from the Ottoman Empire and intensified the anti-Italian national struggle in Libya, while also founding the Caftan Society and the military organization Ahd (Covenant) in 1914, and became the core of the Arab independence movement during World War I.

エジプト生れのアラブ民族運動指導者。1904年イスタンブールの軍事アカデミーを卒業し，マケドニアに配属される。そこで青年トルコ党の将校組織に参加。09年青年トルコ党革命がオスマン主義を顕在化させると，オスマン帝国内でのアラブ自治要求運動の組織化にとりくむ。イエメンのオスマン帝国からの自立化の実現やリビアの反イタリア民族闘争の高揚に助力する一方，14年〈カフターン会〉や軍人組織〈アフド(盟約)〉を結成，第1次大戦下のアラブ独立運動の中核部分を築いた。
