…The oldest temple, Laḍ-khān, has a simple form with a square main hall, a porch, and a gently sloping roof. The Durga temple, from the late 7th century, is unusual in that it has a long hall with a circular rear, reminiscent of a Buddhist chaitya (a shrine housing a tower), and has excellent carvings in the niches of the gallery. The architecture is generally low, and some have a northern Indian-style high tower (shikhara) placed over the main hall. …
