A Paleolithic culture defined as a flake-stone culture based on two layers of remains found in the Micoque rock shelter in the Dordogne region of France. It is named after the Les Eyzies-de-Tayac site in the same region. Stone tools made of small, thick flakes show the characteristics of the Mousterian culture. However, there are no index stone tools, and the culture is characterized by its flake-peeling technique. Many of the flakes have wide striking surfaces, large striking angles, and well-developed percussion bumps. Sites from Spain to Western Asia are assigned to layers from the end of the early or beginning of the middle Paleolithic period. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
